Rebirth to 80's to Have a Good Life

Chapter 5: Going to Grandma House 'Cause There's No Way Out Part 2

Early the next morning, Su Changrong and Sun Qiufang got up.

Although they had divided their household, Sun Qiufang still took care of the cooking. She prepared pancakes, rice porridge, and pickled vegetables for breakfast. The Su Changfu family came out of their room when the food was ready.

Seeing that Su Changrong's family had already started eating, Li Yulan smiled and said, "Big brother, sister-in-law, why didn't you call us to eat? We're going to the town's supply and marketing cooperative today."

Sun Qiufang retorted, "Are you going to tell us when to eat or when to go to the toilet? Can't even get up on your own; whose fault is that?"

Grandma Su snorted unhappily, "Changrong's wife, I have to say, you're quite uncultured."

Su Changrong tried to defuse the situation, "Let's eat, everyone. Don't argue anymore. We're moving out, so there's no need to keep quarreling."

Grandma Su was still unhappy, "It's really forgetting your own mother after getting married."

Su Changrong glanced at Sun Qiufang, who was busy eating, and decided not to say more. He didn't want to argue with his family anymore, especially now that they were moving out. There was no need to ruin their relationships.

Su Min, who had been listening to Su Grandma's complaints, wasn't as angry as before. Since they were going their separate ways, she didn't mind if they argued. In fact, it might be better to create some distance between them and her family.

After breakfast, Su Changfu and Old Su headed to the town to complete some paperwork.

Once they were done, Su Changfu would start his new job at the beginning of the next month. It was a stable job with good benefits, and he wouldn't have to worry about the harsh conditions of farming anymore. After seeing them off, Li Yulan's smile didn't fade.

Turning back to Su Changrong and Sun Qiufang, she teased, "Hey, big brother, big sister-in-law, did you find a place to stay?"

Su Min interjected while carrying a bucket and basin, "You don't need to worry about it."

Li Yulan scolded her, "What an uneducated thing."

Sitting in the yard, Grandma Su watched her eldest son and daughter-in-law as they packed their belongings, preparing to leave. She didn't say a word. Since the commotion from the previous day, she was starting to feel frustrated with her son's family as well. They hadn't given her a grandson, and they had even resorted to violence. She believed it was time for them to leave.

Su Changrong passed by her, saying, "Mom, we're leaving now. We'll come to visit you and Dad in the future."

She responded with a nonchalant "Hmm" and didn't even look at Su Changrong. This made Su Changrong feel a bit heavy-hearted, but he didn't say anything more. He picked up their belongings and left with his wife and daughter.

Su Min, carrying a plastic bucket, walked at the rear. When they left Su's village behind, she turned back to look at the old earthen house where they had lived for generations. She felt a sense of relief in her heart. Finally, in this lifetime, they were leaving this place behind.

After leaving Su's village, Su Changrong found a neighbor's house and temporarily stored their belongings in a thatched hut next to it. Their next step was to send Su Min to her grandparents' house in Sun's village.

Sun's village was quite far from Su's village, and it took nearly an hour on foot.

On the way, Sun Qiufang advised her daughter, "Min, when you go to your grandma's house, be well-behaved, okay? When your dad and I find a house here, we'll come to pick you up."

"Mom, I really don't want to go to grandma's house. You know how my eldest uncle's wife is, not any better than my second aunt. If I stay at their house, I'll definitely be criticized," Su Min frowned. Although her grandma's house only had her mother as a daughter, her eldest uncle was a soft-spoken man who was easily dominated by his wife. Her younger uncle had leg problems and couldn't handle matters at home. Her grandma was getting older, and she didn't want to trouble her family.

Hearing this, Sun Qiufang sighed. She knew the situation at her parents' house, but they didn't have many options at the moment, so they had to rely on her family.

"Min, be good. Just endure it for a while. Your dad and I will come to pick you up soon."

Su Min, feeling frustrated with their stubbornness, held her tongue and continued walking towards her grandma's house. She hadn't even arrived yet, and she knew her eldest uncle's wife wouldn't welcome her. If all other options were exhausted, she would strongly advocate for her parents to go to the city. Even picking up scraps in the city was better than farming in the village.

Upon reaching Sun's village, they followed a small path. After a few minutes of walking, they arrived at a courtyard with an open gate. From the entrance, they could see two houses, one larger than the other. In the yard, an elderly woman with white hair was chopping pigweed in a big basin.

"Mom," Sun Qiufang called out to the elderly woman and hurried inside.

The elderly woman, Mrs. Sun, stopped her work and looked up in surprise when she heard her daughter's voice. "Qiufang, why have you come all of a sudden?" She looked back and saw Su Min and Su Changrong. "Changrong and Min are here too. Come in and sit down quickly."

"Mom, who's here?"

As they were about to enter the house, a plump woman walked out from inside.
