Chapter 2: Patriarchal Grandma Su Part 2
Despite such a scene, Sun Qiufang and Su Changrong went to work early the next day. With a large family and many fields, they had their responsibilities. When the two went out, they told Su Min to come back from school early.
After hearing this, Su Min remembered that she was still studying, in the first grade of junior high school in the town.
When Su Can went out, he took a bite of the egg in front of Su Min and left proudly. Grandma Su followed and told him to be careful on the way.
In her previous life, at this time, Su Min used to envy and resent them, but now she had a different perspective. She had learned not to expect love and attention from those who were incapable of providing it.
She packed her schoolbag, drank a bowl of porridge, and hurried to the town.
At this time, the town was not lively. Only a few families had built houses on both sides of the road. The supply and marketing agency was located on the main street of the town. Her grandfather, Su Gensheng, worked there, and everyone called him "Old Su."
When Su Min passed the supply and marketing agency, she saw her grandfather speaking kindly to the person in charge. She didn't need to be there to know that he was discussing work for her second uncle, Su Changfu.
She took a quick look and went straight to school.
Anyway, even if this job was intended for her second uncle, the supply and marketing agency would soon be gone. If her second uncle's family hadn't used their own money to build a house in town, it would not have been possible for them to open a shop there.
However, Su Changfu's luck had not been great. He had taken her father's job at the brick kiln in the past, but the kiln closed down within a couple of months. Now, he had grabbed this job at the supply and marketing cooperative, which was also likely to close within a year or two.
But he had a son, so Su Min's grandparents did their best to support Su Changfu's family, ensuring that their luck improved.
When she arrived at school, Su Min still felt strange. She hadn't attended school for a long time due to her father's illness. It had been 20 years, and now, as she stepped onto the campus, she couldn't recognize anyone.
After asking a fellow student about the first-year junior high class, she quickly made her way to the classroom.
She didn't know anyone in the classroom, and she walked over in a daze, uncertain of which seat to choose. She asked a classmate for guidance and took a seat amid curious looks.
At this time, the teacher didn't assign seats based on grades, and even though her grades were good, she ended up sitting by the window.
Once she settled into her seat, Su Min began flipping through her textbooks. Except for Chinese, she didn't understand math at all, let alone English, not to mention the other subjects.
"Oh, Su Min, I heard that you were ill. Are you feeling better now?" A girl with two braided hair and a pale face approached her, smiling.
Su Min turned to look at her for a while before recognizing that this person was her best friend from junior high school, Liao Zhaodi.
She recalled that Liao Zhaodi had also left before completing junior high school, but unlike her, Liao Zhaodi didn't drop out; instead, she went to the city. Liao Zhaodi's mother was beautiful but had three daughters and no sons. Liao Zhaodi's father would often beat people at home due to this issue. Unable to tolerate it any longer, her mother divorced him and took Liao Zhaodi's, the youngest daughter when she left. However, Su Min had heard later that Liao Zhaodi's mother went to the city to work as a dishwasher and unexpectedly met a man there, whom she eventually married, taking Liao Zhaodi with her.
Afterward, they never saw each other again.
"Su Min, why aren't you saying anything?" Liao Zhaodi asked, looking at her with wide eyes.
Su Min nodded with a smile, "I'm fine." She gazed at Liao Zhaodi. If she remembered correctly, Liao Zhaodi had left during the first year of junior high school.
Liao Zhaodi sat in a chair and flipped through her book. She sighed, "My parents had another argument today, all because of my younger brother. Do you think us girls are so useless? Why do they insist on having a baby boy at home?"
Usually, both of them would feel wronged at home due to the preference for boys. When they came to school, they were accustomed to sharing their frustrations with each other.
"This is a deeply ingrained concept among the older generation, and there's not much we can do about it. We can only hope they'll come to appreciate us when we succeed in the future." But at that time, she probably didn't care anymore.
Su Min gazed out of the window and realized that living in this small village made her feel the weight of not being valued by her grandparents. However, once she ventured outside and witnessed the vast world, such concerns would seem trivial.
Liao Zhaodi noticed that Su Min seemed low-spirited today and didn't continue venting her frustrations. She hoped that her father would calm down when she returned home today and stop resorting to violence.
After the morning classes ended, Su Min realized that the subjects felt like an incomprehensible foreign language to her.
To catch up with these subjects, she would need a significant amount of time. In her previous life, she hadn't pursued much education, and she had always regretted it. This time around, she was determined to study hard and go to college.
However, that wasn't the most urgent matter at the moment. Right now, she had to get her parents out of that ruthless household and start a new life.
Once their lives stabilized, she could focus on her studies.
After packing her textbooks, Su Min hurriedly headed home. Today, she had decided to be a little rebellious.
